Jersey Central Power and Light is preparing for the impact of severe weather that is forecast to impact parts of the East Coast this weekend. The severe weather includes heavy rain and wind gusts of more than 50 miles per hour across Northern and Central New Jersey.

JCP&L is making arrangements to bring in additional line, substation and forestry personnel, and additional dispatchers based on the severity of the weather.   Plans also include notifying well water and critical care customers of the approaching storm and the possibility that electrical service may be interrupted. If needed, the company’s Incident Command Center in Holmdel will be activated along with the JCP&L storm website.

Customers who may be left without power after the storm are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS or 1-888-544-4877 to report their outage or click the “report outage” link at www.firstenergycorp.com  .

Customers should never go near a downed power line.  Meantime keep electronic devices such as cell phones, laptops and tablets fully charged.  Keep a flashlight, portable radio and extra batteries handy.  Never use a portable generator inside your house or a closed garage.  Also, keep an emergency supply of bottled water and stock up on convenience food that do not require cooking.

During the storm, customers can receive email and text message alerts.  For more information check out https://www.firstenergycorp.com/help/communication_tools.html
