The Museum is pleased to announce the addition of two new life-size fossil casts to the “Written in the Rocks” exhibition starting May 1, 2019. The dryptosaurs on display will be joined by New Jersey’s state dinosaur, Hadrosaurus foulkii, and a Mosasaur, a large marine reptile from the Cretaeous period that was discovered in southern New Jersey! Visitors to the Museum may be somewhat familiar with the Mosasaur, as the skull has been on view previously. These new specimens will be on long-term view thanks to support from NJM Insurance Group and the New Jersey State Museum Foundation.

Paulette’s C of Blue 5K /1 Mile will celebrate its tenth Anniversary by joining efforts with CentraState Fitness & Wellness Center to create fantastic fun for the entire family. In addition to the registered C of Blue run or walk course events, CentraState Fitness & Wellness Center simultaneously will host its Free Fitness Festival. The anticipated dual event includes a variety of fitness classes and demos, gift raffles, health screenings, fundraising prizes, and children’s activities. Vendors will be on-site for some local shopping!

Come get an inside look of the National Historic Landmark, known as the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center will be open for the “Old Monmouth Weekend” Tour of Historical Sites. The T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center, which has been fully restored, is the former home of the prominent African American journalist, T. Thomas Fortune, who lived there with his family from 1901-1912.

This event takes place on West Main Street between Court Street and Throckmorton Street in Downtown Freehold and showcases talented and well-known musicians from the Tri-State Area and beyond. Many vendors are participating with a variety of items from hand rolled cigars being made in front of you to hand crafted jewelry made from sea glass, metal, gem stone, etc. We will also feature vendors with t-shirts, clothing, handmade dog biscuits, soaps, honey, unique crafts, and much more. And let’s not forget our Fire Department/First Aid Trucks will be there for all to see and learn about what they do for our community.
Come to the Thompson Park Creative Arts Center, Lincroft, and choose from a large selection of bisque fired pottery pieces to glaze and make your own. Children age 12 and under are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $6 per hour plus price of bisque ware; cash or check only. Pieces will be fired in about a week.
The Midiri Brothers have long been a popular attraction at the Grunin Center, known for their musical fireworks and light-hearted banter. For this concert, they will be performing a tribute to the two most popular clarinetists of the Swing Era, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, both of whom had May birthdays. The Midiris will perform timeless classics associated with each artist, illustrating with finality that Swing will always be King! Adjunct professor of art & art history, Lydia Chiappini is also an artist who will present a fascinating program, A Victorian Lady’s Wardrobe. A resident of Blairstown, NJ, Ms. Chiappini not only creates art from fibers, acrylics, oils, watercolors, metals, and clay, but also puts her artistic talents to work as she creates and models Victorian costumes & undergarments.
