The Bolshoi’s unique version of Coppélia exhibits a fascinating reconstruction of the original 19th century choreography of this ebullient comedy involving a feisty heroine, a boyish fiancée with a wandering eye, and an old dollmaker. The company’s stunning corps de ballet shines in the divertissements and famous “dance of the hours,” and its principals abound in youthful energy and irresistible humor in this effervescent production.

The Barnegat Bay-Little Egg Harbor estuary is under threat. Suburban sprawl and over-development prompted the Governor of New Jersey in 2010 to direct the NJ Department of Environmental Protection to research and develop a protection plan for the Ocean County bay. Citizens from the region, recreational users, commercial fisherman, activists, scientists, and land developers all shared their experiences with the NJDEP to develop a research strategy towards formulating new regulatory policies and a management plan for protecting the bay. This session explores how the research impacted the protection and stewardship planning. Issues of concern to the environmental regulatory agencies and the public include: nuisance jellyfish blooms, excess nutrients, the imminent closure of the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant on the bay, the benefits of marine conservation zones, and the status of the fish, crab and shellfish populations. Noteworthy is the collection of these data before and after Superstorm Sandy came ashore at BB-LEH, and its impact on the shallow bay. This program is part of the NJ Council for the Humanities Public Scholars Project. Event is free with a museum admission.

American Repertory Ballet brings the beloved classic Nutcracker to the stage with Tchaikovsky’s magnificent score, thrilling choreography and a cast of more than 100. A holiday tradition for more than 50 years (1964), American Repertory Ballet’s Nutcracker is one of the longest, continuously running Nutcracker productions in the nation.

The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker, one of ballet’s treasured classics, tells the story of a little girl named Clara who is given a magical nutcracker doll on Christmas Eve. Embarking on a wondrous journey through the Kingdom of Snow and the Land of Sweets, Clara encounters many unforgettable and timeless characters. Young and old alike will experience the many magical moments, of this beloved holiday ballet. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Verdi’s timeless tragedy La Traviata. Directed by Michael Mayer, this new production features a dazzling 18th-century setting that changes with the seasons. Diana Damrau is the doomed heroine Violetta, opposite Juan Diego Flórez as her lover, Alfredo, and Quinn Kelsey as Alfredo’s protective father, Giorgio Germont.

The National Ballet Theatre of Odessa presents Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. A timeless tale of love, romance, tragedy and transformation in a beautiful and passionate choreographed classical ballet that should not be missed.

A resplendent fairytale ballet, The Sleeping Beauty features scores of magical characters including fairies, the Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, and a beautiful young Princess Aurora performed by Olga Smirnova, a “truly extraordinary talent” (The Telegraph). This is classical ballet at its finest.

The seamless choreography in Phyllis Papa’s Romeo and Juliet vividly depicts the story’s passion, sorrow and vengeance, capturing the intense desire of the star-crossed lovers and the ceaseless feud between two family clans in beautiful Verona. Set to Sergei Prokofiev’s thrilling orchestral score, this dramatic ballet stays loyal to Shakespeare’s original tragic ending.

Artists from the spring dance classes and dance teams of our Monmouth University will present their understanding of the diverse world of dancing. Performances will feature the choreographic exploration of the students and the faculty!

Set to Serge Prokofiev’s hauntingly beautiful score and as if stepping between the pages of a beloved storybook, AC Ballet’s Cinderella vividly delights audiences with the beauty and majesty of classical ballet, wrapped in the promise of “happily ever after,” and generously sprinkled with a wonderful dose of humor. Complete with a fairy Godmother, a handsome prince and an unforgettable ball, the magnificent staging, music and costumes make this production a delight for all ages.
