The Monkees @ Count Basie Center for the Arts
Mar 5 @ 8:00 pm

Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz of The Monkees will hit the road for their first-ever national tour as a duo. Billed as “The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show,” these 16 special performances will feature songs that span the group’s entire career – from its 1966 eponymous debut to 2016’s Good Times. The shows will highlight many of Nesmith’s compositions, including some that have never been performed live. The tour also includes two shows in Canada, which represent Nesmith’s first “Monkees” concerts since the band played there in 1969.

“I love being on stage with Micky,” says Nesmith. “We’ve been collaborating for over 50 years, so it’s hard to believe it’s never been just the two of us. I’m excited to dust off some tunes that I haven’t played for a long time too. These are going to be some fun shows.”

“Right from the get-go, I admired Mike’s songs. When we used to get together around the campfire to sing in the early days, we were always doing his songs,” says Dolenz. “We always had such a great a vocal blend; he was the one who encouraged me to write songs of my own. I’ve always been a big fan and now we finally get to do the Mike & Micky show that we riffed on back when we were shooting The Monkees.”

“The Monkees Present: The Mike & Micky Show” is the latest chapter in Monkee-mania, a saga that began in 1965 when four young men were cast in a television show about a struggling rock band that was inspired by the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. Few could have predicted the impact the Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

Summer of Love @ Count Basie Center for Arts
Mar 22 @ 8:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Glen Burtnik brings you the Summer of Love Concert. This Concert focuses on iconic rock music from the period of time generally between the 1967 release of The Beatles revolutionary album Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and the famous Woodstock Music and Art Festival in 1969.

Joined by 12 or more performers including a horn section, strings, keyboardists, percussionists, background vocalists and an incredible rock rhythm section, the Summer of Love Experience recreates “note for note and absolutely live” the songs, and the psychedelically flavored spirit, of the Woodstock Generation.

The Summer of Love Concert includes music from artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Santana, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Jefferson Airplane, The Association, The Turtles, The Beach Boys, Scott McKenzie, Mamas and the Papas, Country Joe, Ravi Shankar, Procol Harum, Joe Cocker,  Melanie, The Spencer Davis Group, Cream, The Youngbloods, and many more nuggets and surprises! The songs run the gamut from the psychedelic songs to rockin’ album tracks to a sprinkling of now hip Top 40 pop from that era. Jean Mikle, feature writer for the Asbury Park Press and Pulitzer Prize finalist, writes “The Summer of Love Concert, led by Glen Burtnik… was, for me, one of the highlights of this year’s concert going experience…..and……..I go to a LOT of shows.”

Billy Idol & Steve Stevens @ Count Basie Center for the Arts
Apr 4 @ 8:00 pm

Idol and Stevens’ undeniable chemistry and seemingly limitless energy, founded on a mutual love of punk, rockabilly and dance music, has produced decades of successful tours and iconic hits including Rebel Yell, White Wedding, Dancing With Myself, Eyes Without A Face, Flesh For Fantasy, Cradle Of Love and more.

Billy Idol, together with Steve Stevens at his side, was an early architect of the sound, style, and fury of punk rock. His lip- curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognizable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played. He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the U.S. and 10 in the U.K. including “Dancing With Myself, “White Wedding,” “Rebel Yell,” “Mony Mony,” “Eyes Without A Face,” and “Flesh For Fantasy.”

Steve Stevens is one of the most versatile guitarists & songwriters to emerge from the 80s rock scene, with influences spanning from classic rock to flamenco. In addition to his legendary career with Billy Idol, Stevens has worked with some of the biggest names in music, from Michael Jackson to Robert Palmer, Joni Mitchell to Pink. Stevens won a Grammy Award for his work on “Top Gun Anthem” and his songs can be heard on countless soundtracks including “Once Upon A Time in Mexico” and “The Matrix” Trilogy.

Engelbert Humperdinck-The Angel on My Shoulder Tour @ Count Basie Center for the Arts
Apr 5 @ 7:30 pm

Engelbert Humperdinck never wanted to be a singer. A career in music, yes, but he was extraordinarily shy. The youngest boy of a family of ten children originally from Leicester, England, he grew up in Madras, India, where his father was stationed during World War II. Engelbert’s childhood was dominated by the love of his parents and his brothers and sisters. He knew he could sing harmonies, but the power of his own voice came as a surprise to him and other people. “It’s just so loud, but I discovered I can be tender with it at the same time.”

In a career spanning almost 50 years, Engelbert has generated sales in excess of 140 million records, including 64 gold albums and 35 platinum, four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe, and stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Las Vegas Walk of Fame, and Leicester Walk of Fame. He has performed for the Queen four times, several presidents and many heads of state. He has recorded everything from the most romantic ballads to movie theme songs, disco, rock, and even gospel. His unique voice has charmed millions of fans around the globe. However, it’s not just the voice, but the man himself, with his endearing sense of humor and self-deprecating jokes. Engelbert has managed to strike a new chord with a younger generation after appearing on MTV several times.

Engelbert exploded on to the music scene in the sixties with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. His sixties did not so much swing as rage. The shy handsome boy catapulted almost instantly to world icon. He became great friends with Elvis Presley and the two legends often performed each other’s songs. His first single in the charts was “Release Me,” which went into the Guinness Book of Records for achieving 56 consecutive weeks on the charts. It was No. 1 in 11 countries. The song was re-released after being used for a UK national television commercial for John Smith’s beer.

The following decades saw Engelbert touring the world to sell-out crowds. Engelbert seems to take great pleasure in every moment on stage, a place where he can lose his inhibitions and no longer be the child who was once shy.

Engelbert’s music has transcended time and his voice still continues to reach out to people now – serving to transport and inspire, to embrace and to provoke feelings and emotions…ingredients that are no doubt the essence of his long-lasting success.

Lead guitarist and co-founder of the legendary group the Kinks, Rock N Roll Hall of Famer Dave Davies returns to the USA for a 2019 tour, highlighting his contribution to the Kinks legacy with his revolutionary guitar sound that changed rock `n` roll and his unique writing style.
