Energy Company Helps Protect Jersey Shore Ospreys
Jersey Central Power & Light does more than keep the lights on! They’re helping to protect the endangered ospreys around the Jersey Shore area.
Employees from the company’s Union Beach line shop teamed up with Boy Scout Troop 58 of Oceanport to build a new nesting platform and to relocate an osprey nest away from electrical equipment in Monmouth Park.
The nest relocation is one of several JCP&L has planned for this year as part of a new environmental program to help protect New Jersey’s threatened ospreys.
New nesting platform locations are built that do not pose a hazard due to the proximity to electrical equipment.
This year more nests on distribution structures will be moved in Oceanport, Spring Lake Heights and Bayville.
